News of the witty and the joker
Product details
The eminent scholar and jurist Ibn al-Jawzi (508 AH - 597 AH) compiles in this book two types of entertaining and amusing anecdotes: stories of wit and witty people, and stories of debauchery and those who indulge in it. In linguistic terms, debauchery refers to a person's lack of concern for their actions. Wit, on the other hand, is the art of allusion to what would cause shame, and the refinement and eloquence of speech. Ibn al-Jawzi divided his book into three main sections: The first section deals with what has been said about men, and it includes five subsections: what has been narrated about the prophets (peace be upon them), the Companions, scholars and sages, Arabs, and common people. The second section deals with what has been said about women, and the third section deals with what has been said about children. "The Small Heritage Library" is a series that includes a number of essential, important, and enjoyable heritage books, small in size, with easy language and simple expression, of interest to the general reader.
