A tree growing in Brooklyn
Product details
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith... It's not a novel, it's a whole life in a book. These are the words of my friend Afaf, and today I say she was right. The life of the Nolan family and their overcoming of hardships: the struggling mother with a below-average education and her fight to secure a future for her children; the alcoholic father with a wild imagination, yet he tried to be the ideal father to support his family (how happy I was when he died, for it's difficult for people like him to live this life); Frances, the focus of the novel, from her childhood as a ten-year-old wanting to know everything about everything, through her schooling and subsequent work to support her family.
