Dear Tara

Dear Tara, by Ghada Karim... How many people here suffer from loneliness? Perhaps they have a solitary creative career, or belong to a hostile work environment that offers no comfort, or live with a partner who constantly bores them with boredom, or perhaps they don't have a partner at all. Children live happy lives because they are easy; if they don't find friends, they talk to teddy bears, and if they throw them out the window in the morning, they invent an imaginary friend to talk to in the bathtub every evening. I decided to borrow the children's idea of creating companionship, and I will write to an imaginary friend who lives on Mars, and I will give her the name "Tara." And because the return journey by postman is arduous—these are one-sided letters—they will be very comforting for anyone who wants a respite from humanity. I wish you a pleasant journey, and please fasten your seatbelt tightly.
