Ego and defense mechanisms

"Mizej Publishing and Distribution" presents the book "The Ego and Defense Mechanisms": Anna Freud defined defense mechanisms as "unconscious resources used by the ego" to ultimately reduce internal tension. Patients often develop these unconscious mechanisms to reduce conflict within themselves, specifically between the superego and the id. Psychodynamic therapy focuses on helping patients access and understand their unconscious processes. By recognizing and identifying these processes, patients enhance their self-awareness and gain a new understanding of their behaviors. This activity identifies key defense mechanisms to increase clinicians' understanding of their patients during patient consultations and the role of the professional team in their care.
