White Bedouin

Product details

The young Englishman Peter Rick lived a miserable life in London, like all those who moved from the countryside to the city with the beginnings of the Industrial Revolution. His circumstances would lead him to become acquainted with the ideas of the Enlightenment, which had become strongly present in the eighteenth century, and he would get to know David Hume, and an officer on a mission to the Arabian Desert.
The desert captivated him, stirring within him a desire to escape the life he loathed in London. His journey ended in Jeddah, where he was imprisoned. A Bedouin from a tribe living in the town of Turba, in western Arabia, rescued him, and his dream of a life of wonder, embraced by the tribe's sheikh, came true. The sheikh suddenly disappeared, replaced by his wife, Princess Ghaliya, who led her tribe, driven by a deep yearning for liberation from Ottoman rule.

"It was a day I will never forget, it was the beginning of the end of that stage of my life. I spent more than nine years in Turba. I loved its people, I was happy to be near Sheikh Dhahi.. and I knew the meaning of friendship for the first time in my life, a friendship that gives you meaning and makes you feel protected and ready to give without limits. I knew the feeling of pure laughter emanating from innocence."
As I write today, I feel regret, and I try to gather fragments of memories... and to present a picture of the path that led me to the place I long for so much..."
