Dostoevsky wrote the story "The Little Hero" while in solitary confinement in the Petropavlovskaya fortress, and much later he told his friend: "When you found me in prison, you thought that this was the end, but I soon became completely calm and quiet."So what did I do? Dostoevsky explained this phenomenon by saying: “There is an amazing vitality in human nature! I truly could not have believed that man possessed such vitality, but now I know it from experience.”
"My childhood is over," how wonderful Dostoevsky's description of these emotions that burn in the heart of a passionate boy! The last lines of this story, which Dostoevsky wrote before he was transferred to the Siberian prison camp, are among the purest romantic dreams his pen ever penned.
