Food, love, and dance are three practices that bring joy to those who practice them, and through them we reveal our vision of ourselves, of others, and of the nature of our society.
Food is not just about fulfilling a biological need; it is influenced by and influences the environment and culture in terms of determining the type of food and how it is consumed. It determines our relationship with our bodies and with others, and food plays a role in shaping our relationships with our surroundings.
Love contributes to creating perceptions of the self, the other, and the relationship with him. The individual experiences love according to society’s definition of love, and society’s definition of love is nothing but a reflection of the love experiences that members of society have lived through, which contributes to shaping the cultural and intellectual heritage of society.
Finally, there is dance, which is the way we deal with our bodies; either with the strictness of rituals, or with spontaneous dancing that breaks free from preconceived frameworks, or dancing through which we reveal the sensuality of the body.
The book emphasizes that what unites these three practices is the strong presence of the body, based on the principle of pleasure as the driving force behind these three activities. Therefore, this study examines these three practices and their mechanisms of operation in individuals and societies, thus providing a broader understanding of our human experience and existence.
