Dr. Ox's experiments

Product details

Jules Verne can be considered one of the pioneers of science fiction in his era, and one of those who predicted many unprecedented scientific breakthroughs. Jules Verne is the second most translated author in the world since 1979.
Few are those who haven't read a novel or seen a film inspired by one of his timeless masterpieces. In 1863, a literary series known as "Extraordinary Journeys" began to appear, distinguished by its prediction of many of the scientific discoveries and achievements of the 20th century, such as the moon landing and the exploration of the ocean depths. The book we have before us falls under the category of science fiction and was first published in French in 1872. The first story tells of a simple town whose inhabitants are ignorant of malice and evil. The author discusses the most basic ethical principles that any scientist should possess, a stark contrast to the story's portrayal of a man who sacrifices everything to achieve his desired goal. The townspeople are characterized by their kindness, tranquility, and remarkable slowness; no quarrels have broken out within their walls for three centuries. However, they fall victim to the ambition of a mad scientist who claims he will invent something that will greatly benefit them.
The second story highlights the value and importance of science, which liberates one from the shackles of ignorance and superstition. However, when one becomes arrogant with science, one is quickly swept away by its destructive fantasies and convictions. Mr. Zachariah imagines himself the sole controller of time and the unveiler of the mysterious relationship between the soul and the body. He becomes adept at boasting and bragging, believing himself equal to God and possessing His attributes. In the third story, the valiant old sailor eagerly awaits the return of his only son, Captain Louis, to complete his wedding ceremony with his cousin. The ship returns bearing the flag of mourning without its courageous captain, and the grieving father decides to embark on an expedition to search for the missing men amidst the ice. The old man, accompanied by his loyal sailors, endures horrors and faces formidable challenges, traversing a desolate and perilous path.
