The events of Tushar’s novel take place in Calcutta, India, and tell the story of an Arab sailor who drowns in the Bay of Bengal and loses his memory. He is rescued by an Indian pirate fishing ship, but he does not remember his name or which country he came from.They call him Tushar, which in colloquial Arabic means "scatter," and in Hindi it means "beginning" or "the surging of a raging sea." Those on the ship believed that the god Matsya, the first god whose spirit I inhabited in the fish, had sent him to them as retribution for their deeds, so they treated him cruelly.
