Stephen King was born on September 21, 1947, in Portland, Oregon. He has authored more than fifty books, including novels and short stories, all of which have become international bestsellers. His most famous works include: Carrie, Misery, The Thing, Glitter, Pet Sematary, The Dark Tower, The Green Mile, Desired Things, and Cujo.

His recent works include the short story collection *The Nightmare Shop*, the novels *Under the Dome*, *The Shot for the Finder*, *Dr. Sleep*, and *Mr. Mercedes*, which won the Edgar Award for best novel in 2014.
