The sun blazed high in the sky, the temperature a stinging 43 degrees Celsius, a heat carried by the breeze. Beads of sweat trickled down my face after the scorching winds had whipped through me. My city, Riyadh, is scorching in summer and freezing in winter; it knows no moderation. I got into my car after letting out the sweltering heat inside, started the engine, and turned the air conditioning on full blast. It felt hot at first, but gradually cooled down. I drove to my destination to get the driver's side window and some other spare parts repaired. They need to be replaced regularly to be in top condition. This was after I'd finished my call with the mechanic, agreeing on a price that had nearly bankrupted me.
