He is no longer human
Product details
No Longer Human by Osamu Dazai... No Longer Human is not only Osamu Dazai's finest work, but also the second best-selling novel in Japan to date and a semi-autobiographical account of the author, first published in 1948. It is a profoundly moving, poignant, authentic, and deeply human novel, a pure portrayal of the life, thoughts, feelings, and inner turmoil of a young man named Oba Yuzu. He considered himself a social outcast from childhood, unable to understand or connect with others. He resorted to clowning as a way to mask his fears and psychological crises. As he reached adulthood, he became addicted to alcohol and lived in a deadly apathy, leading to two suicide attempts and causing suffering to himself and those around him. Although this novel tells the story of a man who rejects and is rejected by society, ultimately losing his humanity, it is an incredibly humane work.
