The Spanish writer Carlos Ruiz Zafón, one of the world's most renowned authors in recent times, passed away today after a battle with illness in Los Angeles. A screenwriter and novelist, Zafón was born in Barcelona in 1964 and lived in Los Angeles, USA, from 1994. His novel "The Shadow of the Wind," published in 2001, garnered several international awards and sold millions of copies worldwide. Zafón's works have been translated into more than thirty languages. He published his first novel, "The Prince of Mist," in 1993, for which he won the Edebé Prize for Young Adult and Children's Literature. He also has three novels in young adult literature: "Midnight Palace," "September Lights," and "Marina."
