In an inexplicable global event, forty-three extraordinary children were born to women, most of them unmarried, without any visible signs of pregnancy. Inventor and millionaire Reginald Hargreaves adopted seven of these children, and when asked why, his only explanation was "to save the world." From these seven children, the Umbrella Academy was formed: a dysfunctional family of superheroes with unusual powers. Their first adventure, at the age of ten, pitted them against a deranged and murderous Eiffel Tower, piloted by a terrifying zombie robot named Gustave Eiffel. The team disbanded after nearly a decade, but when Hargreaves died unexpectedly, these disaffected siblings reunite just in time to save the world once more.
