Product details

Hussein Karad, like Fadhil Abbas, was an Iraqi immigrant who left Iraq and settled in Germany and Brussels, and I think in his last days he lived in New York. He slept on the street, then in a two-room apartment with a shared bathroom, and once he slept in the kitchen. He read Hassan Mutlaq's novels, and the English edition of the novel "Beer in the Billiard Club".

He wrote poetry: Gypsy Girl, The Night is for the Prophets... and so on.

He ate at a restaurant run by a Hadrami man named Bakran. He drank, and when he was drunk, he became frantic and stamped his feet. Before he emigrated, he suffered an undiagnosed mental breakdown after seeing the charred bodies of children in the Al-Amiriyah shelter. The Americans bombed it with a smart bomb—yes, a smart one. He thought he was somewhat lucky because his house wasn't damaged in the bombing that accompanied Operation Desert Storm, and neither was the tamarisk tree that stood tall in the yard. The clothes his mother had hung out to dry in the yard were untouched, but his mother's spirit was.
