Product details

The narrator is a person who lives in Ankara, loves peace and quiet and staying away from society, and he met Raif Efendi in the job that his friend Hamdi gave him.

Raif Effendi is an introverted and melancholic man who struggles to adapt to the outside world. He is quiet and speaks only when questioned, and he dislikes socializing. The narrator begins to become curious about Raif Effendi, wondering about his strange and reserved nature.

Raif Effendi works translating company documents because he lived in Germany and speaks German well. He has always been submissive to everyone, unable to defend himself when wronged, and he married a woman he doesn't love. He is someone who is often reprimanded by his boss, even though he performs his job perfectly. We wouldn't call him spineless, but rather obedient to everyone, regardless of rank, and he doesn't want to live amidst petty squabbles and problems. Raif has never been able to chart his own course in life; he lives as others dictate. Whenever Raif Effendi falls ill and cannot go to work, the narrator visits him at his home until he becomes like a member of the family, even closer to him than his wife and daughters. One day, Raif Effendi falls seriously ill, and his illness progresses until he is on his deathbed. Meanwhile, the narrator comes across Raif Effendi's diary... and this is where we begin to get to know Raif Effendi.

When you read the story, you will be surprised by exciting situations and events. I cannot summarize a great work in a few words because the content of the story is extensive.
